Let me count the waves!

Where to start... today was a really hard day... the notice of my MIL passing came out at work... and people started to come over to offer their sympathies and to ask me what had happened.  So all through the day I was reminded of the fact that she is no longer there.

She was such an inspiration for me.  I used to love talking about my craft with her.  That was a special bond that we had the 2 of us.   She had a big family (6 kids - 3sons, 3 daughters, 15 grandkids and 3 great grandkids) but I was the only one that really liked to craft as much as she did.  So the idea that I will never be able to share that with her again really made my heart ache.

I decided to do a card for her.  Since I have the wonderful opportunity to design for When the scrap hits the fun before leaving on vacation Marion send me a wonderful set of digis to play with.  And it just happens that the sentiment was perfect for how I was feeling!!!!  The images that I played with are Sea Turtle (not colored) and Seaweeds 1 color (just love the fact that it was done for me already :)  I also used the sentiment that came with it which is: If you want to know how much I love you count the waves!  How cute is that?!?  And how perfect to send my love to my MIL (I'm sure that she can see it from where she is).

The paper that I used to make this card comes mostly from Basic Grey -Lauderdale, the bottom one is a CM paper that I cut using my CM wave border punch.  I used my Label 1 spellbinder die (that I purchased from a fellow DT enabler ;)))  Kim... not to name her lol).  I also used some ribbon from my stash and a sea star that I got in the States at Christmas Tree Shop in Essex VT, it's an earring ;) just thought it would make a wonderful charm so purchased it for that.

Here's a closer look at the images that I colored using my copics and I added some weathered wood distress ink (also purchased on my trip... lol hope my hubby is not reading ;) )

I popped up the turtle and the sentiment to give some 3d effect, you can see it a bit better with this view:

This is the wonderful set of digis that this little guy comes from:
And you can find it here

Marion is such a talented artist!!!  I hope that she will like what I created with her wonderful digis.

Hugs!

  4. Lovely card and so sorry for your loss. My DIL crafts with me and it is such a special thing to share my love of crafting with her. My 2 daughters aren't interested at all in crafting, so I was thrilled with my son's choice of a mate. I bet that your MIL felt that way too.

Thanks for going to the beach/Sea with us at Creative Card Crew.

  6. Hi Vicky,

THANK YOU so much for your visit to my blog and lovely comment. Its TRUE, when my husband and I decided we would see if we could be always together, every SINGLE night of our marriage I truly thought he was nuts but went along with it... now its such a testimony and has kept us SO close. Its like when you are arguing but holding hands at the same time? The proximity MAKES you work out all the kinks without running away ever. It's amazing to me. If anything ever happened to him I'd be SO glad of this choice.

LOVE your ocean card, in fact, stay tuned to my blog, for I have a sea themed element cooking up in my head right now!

    So glad I could visit!

    Blessings,
    Barb

  7. Vicky, I did not know about your MIL. I am so sorry for you. I lost my mom, sister, and her two children in an auto accident 5 years ago. No one like to talk about crafts better than me and my mother. To this day I still miss those daily phone calls. How wonderful your card is. Love all the colors you use and please know I am thinking of you. Great Card, my friend. joann sassy raggedy

  8. Love this, Vicky! What a great underwater feel to this card. Wonderful tribute to your MIL. I know the sense of loss. My own MIL shared all kinds of sewing/crafting loves with me and we were so close. I think sometimes I was actually closer to her than my own mother, who had passed on almost 20 years before I lost my MIL. I'm keeping you in my prayers, hon. Hugs.
